Creating Pirate Activities for Preschool Children

What could be more fun for your children and give you more memories than hosting a pirate party for their birthdays? Themed celebrations are quite common and provide entertainment for children and parents alike. Although the thought of throwing a themed celebration might seem daunting, with a little planning and a lot of imagination, you can host one that you will talk about for years. Not only this, but you can do it all while saving a lot of money. By having the celebration at you home, you are free to decorate in any way that you want to match with the theme and don’t have to pay expensive rental fees to other venues. On top of that, any pirate activities for preschool children that you plan can double as the entertainment and centerpiece of the celebration.

In order to get into the theme, you’ll want to have buccaneer themed games to entertain the kids. One game that you can have is a variation on pin the tail on the donkey. However, instead of pinning the tail onto the donkey, your kids will have to pin the eye patch onto the pirate. All you need for this is to download a picture of a swashbuckler from the internet and blow it up to a poster size at any copy and printing shop. Affix the picture to a large piece of foam board that you can buy at any hobby store. Next, cut out small eye patches out of black construction paper. Through each patch, place a small thumbtack that will fasten the patch to the picture. When it’s time for the game, help each child write his name on the patch. When the game begins, the children will take turns being blindfolded and spun around a few times. The goal of the game is to place the eye patch as close to the eye as possible. The child that puts the patch closest to the target wins a small prize.

Another fun activity for the children is to make their own treasure boxes to store their pirate party accessories like chocolate, gold coins and other favors. You will need a few small shoe boxes or tissue boxes, some glue, construction paper, paints, markers, and anything else that can be used to decorate the treasure chests. Begin by helping the children to cut out strips of brown construction paper, which will look like wooden planks. Next, glue the strips onto surfaces of the box to make it look like a wooden treasure chest. Once that is completed, the kids can have a lot of fun decorating and personalizing their own treasure chests with all the decorations and paints that you have provided. Once they are dried, they can use them to store their party favors and other items.

When it comes to making up pirate activities for preschool kids, let your imagination be your guide. There are no hard and fast rules about throwing a themed celebration, since the only thing that really matters is whether or not everyone had a good time.
